SQUIRREL NUT ZIPPERS' "PERENNIAL FAVORITES" ECD COMPANION GUIDE.
revised 7/19/98
-------------------------------- general navigation ------------------------
Things not to miss:
-If there is a screen with song lyrics be sure & click on the song's title & it will bring up a book explaining each Zippers' role in creating that song.
-If a video is playing and you want to quit out of it, simply click on the video.
-You can exit out of the book at anytime by clicking anywhere on the screen except for the forward or backward arrows. The book is 363 pages long, split up into sections throughout the CD-ROM.
-SPECIAL ADDED FEATURE for those of you with jobs - if you are playing with this at work & you see your boss coming, simply hit the "b" key & you will be safe, for the moment. Click the mouse to continue.
-You can quit at anytime from anywhere. Simply hit "command" or "apple" (depending on the platform) & "." and it will take you to the end credits. If you don't want to see them repeat the above action or click on the "Exit" button at the bottom of the screen.
-In the sections other than the "Perennial Favorites" section that have excerpts from other Zippers songs - there is only a portion of the song. It is physically impossible to have the entire song from every CD they have made on this one CD.
-Volume control (mac platform only) - At anytime you can adjust the volume of the program by simply hitting the "1" key for lowest & "0" key for the loudest volume. Keys "2" through "9" offer an increasing range of volumes between those points.
------------------------------- opening montage ------------------------
The background image was based on an image I saw on a Minnie Mouse cartoon.
The video montage was taken from the following shows: Smith's Old Bar - Atlanta, Roxy - Atlanta, Great American Music Hall - San Francisco, Music Midtown - Atlanta and The Roxy - Los Angeles.

Click on Don Raleigh's name for an explanation of where that song came from.
*** SECRET LINK ***** "Wished For You"
I had started to redesign the "Inevitable" section just to make it a little different than on the "Hot" ECD. I did one screen & realized it would take too long. I did complete one screen though. If you click on Katharine's right eye it will bring it up. If you click on her right eye again it will take you back to the original.
"Lugubrious Whing Whang"
Listen carefully. That is an early demo version of the song when it had lyrics.
"You're Driving Me Crazy"
The lyrics have been added & the picture of Katharine which was taken on the set of the first "Put A Lid On It" video shoot 8/8/96
-------------------------------- "Hot" Section ------------------------------
This section was taken from the "Hot" ECD as well with a few changes:
B&W photos by Roger Manley.
The opening screen has been updated with the montage on newspaper headlines.
Main menu design cleaned up & firecrackers re-designed. Band photo updated.
"Put A Lid On It"

"I Raise Hell" recorded in my friends Bucky & Eldrid's kitchen over their radio while the Zippers were performing on KROQ on 2/25/97.
-------------------------------- "Backstage" Section ------------------------------
This montage is probably the main reason I wanted to do a second ECD with the Zippers. I wanted to have something like this on the interactive piece on "Hot" but I didn't have time to do it. I went through all of my backstage footage that I had & put this together.
This montage was taken from the following shows: "Brick By Brick" - San Diego (2/25/97), "Luna Park" - Los Angeles (9/1/96), "Great American Music Hall" - San Francisco (2/97), "Cotton Club" - Atlanta (2/96), "The Roxy" - Los Angeles (2/97 ), "Roxy" - Atlanta (3/97), "Spaceland" - Los Angeles (9/2/96) & KCRW - Los Angeles (9/1/96).

What is that dial? It is the control panel from a 1937 Wulitzer jukebox. I put a message on my website if anyone in the Atlanta area had a Victrola to let me know. Stephanie Parks in Atlanta emailed & said she had this beautiful jukebox I should come photograph. She was right. The jukebox plays 78's & it still works.
